Luigi Ferrario graduated in architecture from the Turin Polytechnic and received a masters degree in environmental and architectural restoration from the University of Rome. When he was just 25 he directed the architectural section of the Centre d’Experimentation Artistique Marie Louise Jeanneret di Boissano and at 26 he opened the professional studio and gallery of modern and contemporary architecture Laboratorio Architettura Contemporanea in Rome with the exhibition “Dopo l’architettura post-moderna”(after post-modern architecture).
In 1983 he curated the exhibition “Terragni-Poesia della Razionalità" (Terragni- the Poetry of Rationality) in Rome and in 1984 in Milan the exhibition “Riccardo Gualino- Architetture da collezione”(Riccardo Gualino-architectural collections) and again in Rome in 1985 the exhibition “Figini e Pollini: Architettura per il Movimento Moderno” (Figini and Pollini: Architecture for the modern world)
In 1989 he moved his working studio to Milan.
In January 1999 Skira published a book of his works entitled “Mies and Me”.
Several of his works and designs have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, at the Parma Architectural Festival and, in 2003, in the “Gold Medal for Italian Architecture” at the Triennale design Museum in Milan he was presented with an honourable mention.
The restoration of the Legnano Castle was selected as one of the Italian works for the “European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture- Mies van der Rohe Award 2009” and have been exhibited in the “Gold Medal for Italian Architecture” at the Triennale design Museum in Milan with an honourable mention.
In 2010 the floating prototype of The Alluminium House was presented in the Culture Nature for the 12. Mostra Internazionale di Architettura – La Biennale di Venezia.
In September 2010 Silvana Editoriale published a book of his works entitled “Paesaggi costruiti”.
He designs and execute architectural projects that include urban and monumental restoration, and projects in interior architecture and design in Italy and to foreign.
Recent works include the environmental rehabilitation of the historical centers of the towns of Turbigo along the Naviglio Grande Canal and the monumental rehabilitation Legnano Castle Picture Gallery .
Current works in progress include multi-storey buildings in Milan and Grugliasco, an experimental system made in iron for siocial housing, a several Riads in Marrakech and a “Parco tematico del Paesaggio Lombardo”.
